In the cozy town of James Island, the name ‘Dinkins’ resonates with more than a hint of nostalgia. Over the past two decades, the Dinkins family has deeply interwoven their lives with the local community through their dual ventures, Dinkins Auto Service and Big Joe’s Fireworks. However, after more than 20 years of lighting up the sky, the family has decided to embark on a new journey.
Gearing towards a new phase, the family plans to take some time off from their thrilling yet demanding business ventures. The sentiment resonated through the voices of the Dinkins – Joe and Tracee. As they recall, the venture that started as a strategic move to support their children’s college expenses, gradually blossomed into a local treasured institute.
This year’s Fourth of July, however, will retain a bittersweet taste for the family as they recall the countless memories forged amidst the colorful sparks of their business. “It’s kind of come full circle in that respect,” Tracee Dinkins reflected heartily.
The Dinkins’ Fireworks enterprise turned out to be more than just a business – it became a legacy passed down through generations. “We got third-generation families up here. The parents, the kids, and their kids have kids and they’re bringing them up here and that’s, that’s pretty neat to see,” Joe Dinkins jagged with a hint of nostalgia in his voice.
While the pyrotechnic chapter in the Dinkins family story is closing, their other venture, Dinkins Auto Service, will continue to serve James Island. They assure loyal customers that Big Joe’s Fireworks will be open for business as usual until they sell out on the Fourth of July. The stand has announced buy-one-get-one-free deals as part of their thank-you gesture to their cherished customers.
A farewell to a business that has been a part of a family for more than two decades is not a simple goodbye. It is a transition to another stage of life, filled with the promise of new beginnings, opportunities and adventures. As the Dinkins family part from their bright enterprise, they leave behind illuminating trails of memories cherished by three generations and an entire community – a token of their vibrant legacy.
Regardless of the transitions, the Dinkins family’s story echoes the power of dreams, dedication and love for the community – reminding us that sometimes, it takes a little spark to light up the sky – or in their case, many skies for over two decades.
