Cougars Begin Quest for Second CAA Tournament Championship

WILMINGTON, N.C. –

College of Charleston looks to add a CAA Tournament championship to its 2024 resume when it opens play Thursday at 3 p.m. at Brooks Field in Wilmington, N.C.

Top Seed

The top-seeded Cougars will take on either No. 4 Delaware or No. 6 Hofstra in their first game, depending on the outcome of Wednesday afternoon’s game between the Pride and third-seeded Northeastern.

Potential Opponents

Delaware defeated No. 5 William & Mary, 7-3, in the opening contest. If Hofstra wins then it will be Charleston’s opponent, but the Blue Hens become the matchup if the Huskies defeat the Pride. Delaware defeated No. 5 William & Mary, 7-3, in the opening contest.

Tournament Format

A victory on Thursday will advance the Cougars in the winner’s bracket with their next game being Friday at 7 p.m. A loss will put Charleston in an elimination game Friday at 3 p.m. The championship game is Saturday at 5 p.m. or Sunday at 1 p.m. if an if-necessary game is required.

Past Success

Charleston is seeking its second CAA Tournament championship, having won the event in its first season in the league in 2014. The Cougars also won the Southern Conference Tournament in 2006.

Strong Season Performance

The Cougars, with a record of 39-12 and 21-5 in CAA play, head into the tournament as the regular season champion for the second time in the past three years. Charleston brings its fifth winning streak of at least five games into the postseason and has won 25 of its last 28 overall.

Preparation for the Tournament

The Cougars did not face either Delaware or Hofstra during the regular season. They are 7-2 against the other three teams in the field, including a sweep of William & Mary and two of three against Northeastern and No. 2 seed and host UNCW.
