Celebration of Art and Music: Christian Morant to Release New Album on December 2nd in Charleston

Celebration of Art and Music in Charleston: Christian Morant’s New Album Release

There’s an exciting buzz in Charleston as local poet and musician Christian Morant prepares to celebrate the release of his brand-new album! This highly anticipated event is set to take place on December 2nd at the popular Charleston Pour House. And guess what? It’s also Morant’s birthday, making it a double celebration!

What to Expect at the Release Party

If you’re a fan of musical artistry and vibrant performances, you won’t want to miss this. The evening will feature live performances not only from Morant himself but also from the talented musicians he collaborated with during the making of the album. Plus, get ready to enjoy a special performance by the 2024 winner of the Charleston City Paper Music Award for Electronic Act of the Year, Grandaddi Caddi!

Morant reflected on his journey to this moment, stating, “I started writing these songs in 2016, I didn’t know it was going to turn into an album.” His creativity truly blossomed over these past two years as he collaborated with Jackson Bailes, a director from Summerville, to create a Youtube studio series that features these songs alongside other incredible musicians from Charleston.

An Album Born from Passion

The first single from this series, titled “Mermaid Green,” debuted in summer 2024, marking the beginning of a beautiful musical journey. As Morant shares, his approach to songwriting is deeply personal and focused on embracing vulnerable storytelling through his lyrics. “I actually wanted less from the instrumentation so people could focus on the lyrics. That was intentional,” he explains passionately.

And how about the album itself? It’s recorded live, and Morant likens the experience to a thrilling adventure. “Usually [when recording an album], you track one thing or a few things at a time, like vocals and drums separately. But with a live album, everybody’s in the studio all at once, so you have to be on your P’s and Q’s.” He admits it was a tiring process, but emphasizes how it ultimately turned out to be fulfilling, highlighting the joy of making music in a fun and authentic way.

Collaboration and Creativity

Morant’s album is not just his own; it shines a light on the talented artists surrounding him. He collaborated with local musicians like Michael Duff from North Charleston, who contributed guitar to many tracks, and Emily Curtis, a vocalist from Mount Pleasant. “The collaborations were a little tricky,” Morant admits, “because each time I’m adapting to new people and getting what they can give, and hopefully it’s something beautiful.”

A Deep Dive into Emotion

Listeners can expect a range of emotions throughout Morant’s latest work. From upbeat, lively tracks like “Splash” and “Yellow Lotus” to profound reflections on personal struggles and growth, Morant’s music beautifully captures the essence of life’s ups and downs. “It was a grueling journey of growth,” he shares, adding that many of the more joyful songs were created after he worked through darker times.

His heartfelt track “The Greatest Showman” serves as a touching homage to his late grandparents, reflecting on love, loss, and everything in between. Morant’s message resonates with listeners, reminding us that we’re not alone in our emotional experiences. “If you’re having these struggles, you have a duty as an artist,” he reflects on the importance of sharing his journey through music.

Join the Celebration!

So, mark your calendars for December 2nd from 6 PM to 9 PM and head over to the Charleston Pour House. This exciting event is free to attend with donations encouraged to support the artists and celebrate independent music. Plus, you’ll be among the first to hear Morant’s album available on Spotify and Apple Music starting the same day!
