Charleston’s Own Congress The Band Strikes a Chord with Debut Single

Charleston, prepare yourself! A new band is making waves in the local music scene, and the energy is electric. Congress The Band, a five-member group that radiates both talent and originality, has just released their debut single, Out The Door, and it promises to be the anthem we didn’t know we needed. This upbeat tune harmonizes catchy rhythms with heartfelt lyrics, ensuring it’s a delight for both your ears and your heart.

The Sound of Heartbreak

So what’s the scoop on Out The Door? Right off the bat, it’s hard not to notice the groovy rhythm that lays the groundwork for this toe-tapping track. Drummer Jett Seawell and bassist Robert Farmer collaborate to create a beat that’s not just catchy but also allows fellow musicians Thomas “Thos” Spratt and Daniel Guy to layer their guitars effortlessly. Of course, the cherry on top is William Bennett, whose vocals dive deep into the groove with a soulful exploration of heartbreak.

Specificity Meets Emotion

Bennett’s raw lyrics cut straight to the heart. In one heart-wrenching line, he sings, “She’s talking out that big ol’ mouth of hers/And that shit hurts.” It’s a line that many can relate to, conveying a sense of vulnerability that sticks with listeners. But, is this a personal experience for Bennett? You bet! “It’s about a real girl that I met in late-May,” he shares. “The song was written probably about five days after we stopped talking.” Talk about writing from the heart!

Creative Sparks Fly

The evolution of this track wasn’t without its hurdles, though. Bennett admits that he frequently battles writer’s block. However, inspiration struck during a recording session when guitarist Daniel Guy’s friend Nick Matthews joined in. As Matthews played around with the chord progression, the energy changed, and suddenly, Bennett found his cadence. “I heard the chord progression, and the lyrics immediately snapped in my head,” he recalls. They even had to dash to a room with a window, so they could observe the jamming session while writing away.

Band Dynamics

The chemistry amongst the members is palpable. Originally starting as a duo on their couch, Bennett and Spratt brought their living room dreams to life. As Spratt put it, “William and I have been together since the beginning. We’ve developed a lot of chemistry over that time.” But they were just getting started! Soon, they welcomed the remaining musicians, including Farmer, who jumped into playing bass, despite being a guitarist at heart: “I’ve actually only been playing bass since about January,” he confessed.

A Growing Fanbase

Before Out The Door even dropped, Congress The Band had garnered attention thanks to their lively performances captured in videos that circulated online. “The first time we ever played with a drummer was at Wild Dunes last summer,” Bennett explained. A video from that event sparked significant interest, leading to invites from colleges and events that further fueled their passion for music.

What’s Next for Congress The Band?

Now that Out The Door is officially out into the wild, the band is excited about their next steps. Spratt emphasized, “The next step for us is to make more music.” They are also eyeing the prospect of performing at ticketed venues and even planning a future tour. With plans to release another single, Modern Lady, on November 22, one thing is clear: this band is just getting started!
