Charleston Welcomes Three New Transfers to Women’s Basketball Roster

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women’s basketball team is gearing up for the 2024-25 season with the addition of three talented transfers to their roster. Head coach Robin Harmony recently announced the signing of McKinley Brooks-Sumpter, Nyah Willis, and Sophia Tougas, who bring a wealth of experience and skill to the Cougar squad.

McKinley Brooks-Sumpter

McKinley Brooks-Sumpter, a versatile combo guard, joins the Cougars after a successful stint at UNC-Ashville. The South Carolina native earned a spot on the Big South All-Conference Second team for the 2023-24 season, where she showcased her scoring prowess by averaging 14.6 points per game and 6.9 rebounds. With 54 starts under her belt, Brooks-Sumpter is ready to make an impact on both ends of the court for Charleston.

Coach Harmony praised Brooks-Sumpter’s ability to lead the offense as a guard or score in bunches off the ball. Her defensive skills and full-court pressure will undoubtedly bolster the Cougar’s defensive system.

Nyah Willis

Graduate guard Nyah Willis hails from San Jose, California, and brings her experience from North Carolina A&T to the Charleston roster. Adept at playing multiple positions, Willis averaged 6.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in her previous season with the Aggies. Her versatility on both ends of the floor makes her a valuable asset to the team.

Harmony highlighted Willis’s defensive abilities, noting her prowess in defending positions 1-4. Offensively, Willis excels as a slasher who can finish strong at the rim, adding another dimension to the Cougar’s scoring arsenal.

Sophia Tougas

Sophia Tougas, a redshirt junior guard from Glens Falls, N.Y., joins Charleston after a stint at CSU Bakersfield. With an average of 6.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in the 2023-24 season, Tougas has proven her worth on the court. Having started in 30 out of 57 games played, she brings experience and a scoring threat to the Cougar lineup.

Harmony praised Tougas’s length and ability to stretch the floor with her shooting range. Additionally, her rebounding skills and defensive versatility will provide valuable contributions to the team’s gameplay.

With the addition of these three talented transfers, the College of Charleston women’s basketball team is poised for an exciting 2024-25 season. Coach Harmony expressed her enthusiasm for the new additions and looks forward to seeing them make a significant impact on the court.
