Charleston baseball clinched a first series win of the season on Sunday with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Marshall. The Cougars relied on stellar pitching performances from Connor Campbell, Alex Lyon, and Davis Aiken to secure the win and take the series.
Connor Campbell led the charge on the mound for Charleston, going six strong innings after giving up an early run in the first inning. Campbell surrendered six hits with no walks and tallied five strikeouts to keep Marshall at bay. Key contributors for the Cougars included Kevin Madden and Dylan Johnson, who both registered two hits in the game. Madden drove in a crucial run, while Mathis scored the tying run and picked up the winning RBI with a bases-loaded walk.
