This past March, the lovely city of Charleston came alive with the sounds, smells, and tastes of the annual Charleston Wine + Food Festival, marking its 19th year of delicious celebrations! For five fabulous days, the festival attracted food lovers and wine aficionados from all over, eager to indulge in an array of amazing dishes and drinks.
Held in various venues across downtown, one standout location was the bustling Johnson Hagood Stadium, which transformed into an enchanting Culinary Village. Here, festival-goers were treated to a vibrant atmosphere filled with mouthwatering flavors and fun activities. With over 90 unique experiences designed to blend food, culture, and entertainment, this festival had something for everyone!
The Culinary Village was a haven for those looking to explore the world of food. Patrons wandered through rows of vendors showcasing handmade goods, while culinary demonstrations brought extraordinary dishes to life right before their eyes. Guests were also able to kick back and enjoy music performances, with a fun twist in the form of a silent disco that had everyone dancing without disruptively blaring beats. It was a vibrant mix that made for a truly unforgettable atmosphere!
What made this year’s festival standout was the overall vibe. With improved crowd control measures and a more limited number of attendees, visitors reported feeling much more at ease. This year offered a more personal and enjoyable experience, allowing attendees to connect more intimately with vendors and chefs compared to the bustling crowds of previous years.
The Charleston Wine + Food Festival, which first kicked off in 2005, has grown to become a beloved event for both locals and tourists. Not only does it showcase incredible culinary talent, but it also significantly supports the local economy. Many patrons left the festival not only with full bellies but also with a newfound appreciation for local restaurants and hotels, contributing to the community’s vibrant culinary scene.
In an effort to inspire the next generation of chefs, the festival also featured a culinary training program for high school students, with participation from nine local high schools. This initiative encourages young talent to explore the culinary arts while gaining hands-on experience and mentorship.
Add to the excitement, a New York-based brand, Mixiboy, chose this year’s festival to launch their organic baking mixes! They whipped up 10,000 cookies to share with the crowd, leaving sweet impressions with every bite—talk about a sugary highlight!
The festival isn’t slowing down any time soon! Next year’s gathering will mark a major milestone as the festival celebrates its 20th anniversary. Plans are already underway to ensure that there will be something for every palate, making sure attendees will have even more flavors to enjoy.
The grand finale on March 9, 2025, did not disappoint either, featuring a mix of food and beverage vendors alongside upbeat music and plenty of dancing. With numerous vendors serving up small plates of delight, the crowd was fully engaged in the festivities—making for a lively and spirited atmosphere. There’s no doubt that Charleston’s Wine + Food Festival has become a staple of culinary celebration in the city, and this year was no exception!
