If you’re a fan of great food, cozy atmospheres, and, most importantly, wine, then you’re in for a real treat! Charleston is about to get a sweet new addition to its culinary landscape with the opening of Roseline, a curated wine bar set to debut on November 8. Located in the charming Elliotborough neighborhood at 125 1/2 Line St., this tiny establishment is the brainchild of Meggie and Quinn Burns, who realized that their delightful corner of the city was missing just the right place to enjoy a glass (or two) of expertly selected wine.
Meggie and Quinn, who both moved to Charleston from different cities during the pandemic—Chicago and Atlanta, respectively—have quickly fallen in love with their neighborhood. As avid diners who frequent local hotspots like Vern’s, Chubby Fish, and Guilded Horn, they recognized the potential for a space that could merge their passion for dining and wine. And so, Roseline became a reality.
“Our neighborhood is slowly becoming a restaurant and bar mecca in Charleston,” Meggie explained. “We are hoping Roseline adds to that while keeping the neighborhood’s unique integrity.”
Although Roseline may only cover a petite 429 square feet, it promises a big personality! Meggie and Quinn have transformed the former Sightsee Coffee Shop into a wine haven that is both cozy and inviting. Working alongside the talented team at Public Regard and Golde Workshop, they designed a space that feels personal and reminiscent of the tiny bars they’ve adored on their global travels. “Quinn and I have traveled all throughout the world. It’s those tiny little bars that have such a big personality [that we love],” Meggie said.
Roseline will feature 12 rotating wines by the glass, along with more than 40 bottles to choose from. But they’re not stopping at just wine! Guests can also look forward to a selection of sake—curated by Meggie’s brother who is a sake sommelier—as well as a couple of beer options on tap, including Guinness and Charles Towne Fermentory’s Sungazer IPA. For those who enjoy a variety of choices, Roseline will offer over 20 grab-and-go brews and non-alcoholic drinks.
While the details of the full menu are still under wraps, Meggie hinted that the bar aims to create a “very healthy balance” between old world and new world wines, utilizing local distributors like Advintage, Lee Distributors, and Mission Grapes. And yes, they’re even bringing in some fun with options like Schlitz beer, a nod to Meggie’s college days in New Orleans.
“Our ultimate goal with our menu is to have something that caters to everyone, ranging from cheap beer to high-end wine,” Meggie noted.
Roseline isn’t just about drinks; it’s about creating an experience where everyone feels welcome. Quinn expressed their desire for customers to leave feeling just as comfortable as they would in a friend’s living room. “We’ll go out to dinner, and then we’re always looking for a place that feels cozy when we want to be on our couch—but we want to still feel like we’re social,” he explained.
And what’s even cooler? The bar will have a small food menu offered on weekends, featuring curated meat and cheese boards from nearby Tinto Cafe and Provisions. Perfect for those evenings when you want to indulge a little!
Meggie shared that the excitement is palpable within the community. “All the neighbors will pop their heads in and be like, ‘Hey, what’s this going to be?’ And we say, ‘It’s a mini wine bar.’ And they’re just ecstatic!”
As Elliotborough continues to grow into a lively neighborhood full of culinary delights, Roseline aims to fill a unique niche that completes the local experience. Join Meggie and Quinn on this exciting adventure by dropping in once they open their doors and enjoy some fantastic wine in the heart of Charleston!
