Charleston Gears Up for National Small Business Week: Highlighting Local Retail Businesses
Charleston city is sprucing up for the National Small Business Week set to begin this Sunday, April 28, with activities extending until Saturday, May 4. The city’s vibrant local business scene has much to offer, from adorable mom-and-pop shops, trendy clothing stores, quaint boutiques, to cozy corner stores, eclectic bookstores, unique gift shops, and friendly pet stores.
As part of the week’s celebrations, five small local retail businesses will be spotlighted, one each day, in upcoming newsletters. The businesses to be highlighted will be chosen based on recommendations received from the city’s residents.
Criteria for Nomination
To be eligible for consideration, a business must satisfy certain criteria:
1. Retail Category: The business must fall within the retail category. This broad classification includes clothing stores, boutiques, bookshops, gift shops, pet stores, and corner stores. However, the list excludes eateries and drinking establishments since these will be featured another time.
2. Size and Origin: Nominated businesses should be small, locally operated entities that significantly contribute to Charleston’s economy.
3. Geographical Location: The business must be located within the Charleston area. This stipulation ensures highlighted ventures are accessible to the local residents of Charleston.
