Charleston County police have recently arrested a woman named Duffy Cole, 53, in relation to a shooting event that unraveled on a Wednesday night in the city. She has been formally charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, as indicated by local jail records.
This incident took place on the 1300 block of Witter Street on James Island, with authorities responding to the scene around 6:36 pm after receiving a call about a gunfire
A victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, claims to have met Cole at a Windermere Boulevard business locale at approximately 4:30 p.m. The meeting allegedly escalated into a quarrel, and he decided to leave the premises approximately thirty minutes later.
Reportedly, the victim, upon reaching his residence, found Cole in her vehicle. According to the victim’s statement to the deputies, Cole unveiled a gun and pointed it at him.
Conversely, in her statement to the law enforcement officers, Cole claimed that she had followed the victim back to his house intending to confront him. Fearing for her safety, she said she brought along a gun for personal protection.
Upon confrontation, a physical altercation ensued between the two, during which, she admitted, the firearm was discharged three times. However, both parties agree that the gunfire was not aimed at the individual but was shot into the ground.
As part of the investigation around this incident, the local law enforcement authorities administered a gunshot residue test on Cole. The result of this scientific procedure has not yet been publicly disclosed.
Cole has since been taken to the Al Cannon Detention Center. A judge set her bail at $50,000, and she has since been released from jail pending further proceedings.
This is an ongoing investigation, and more details are expected to be released as new developments surface. The authorities are urging anyone with further information regarding this case to come forward.
At this point, no other individuals are believed to be involved in this incident. However, authorities are working to determine if additional charges may be warranted against Cole.
