Hey Charleston residents! We’ve got some juicy details from the latest health inspections that took place last month in the Holy City. If you’re a foodie or just someone who enjoys dining out, you might want to grab a snack and settle in as we dive into the good, the bad, and the outright shocking health scores of our local eateries!
Can you believe it? The restaurant at the Renaissance Charleston took the biggest hit this November, snagging a 71-point C grade—our city’s lowest score! The inspectors were less than impressed after their visit on November 6. Just picture this:
But wait, there’s more! Soups, potatoes, and garlic sauce were tossed out like yesterday’s news since they were past their prime. Corn was seen isolating itself, cooling at room temp. And flour? It was chaotically resting on the floor in dry storage. Not to mention, multiple kitchen tiles looked like they’ve seen better days!
After a required follow-up inspection on November 13, the Renaissance restaurant redeemed itself with an A grade. Phew!
Now, they weren’t alone in the less-than-stellar scores. Dragon Place also had its time in the spotlight with a 75-point C grade during an inspection on November 18. Here’s what the inspectors found:
After their follow-up on November 20, Dragon Place managed to bounce back with an A grade.
Meanwhile, Poke Cafe scored a solid 87-point B grade on November 18. But don’t let that fool you; they found small black flies buzzing around their storage area. Plus, the ice machine was in need of a cleaning, and some sushi ingredients were not correctly stored. No one wants a side of flies with their poke bowl!
Then there’s T-Bonz Gill & Grill; they earned an 80-point B grade as well on November 12. But, apparently, some of their service staff didn’t remember to wash their hands after handling dirty dishes—uh oh!
In great news, all of these restaurants improved their scores after follow-up inspections, ultimately earning A’s! Toast of Charleston also scored a B before cleaning up its act on November 13, and secured an A on the follow-up inspection. Though they had a rogue jelly case blocking hand-washing facilities—it seems like everyone had something to work on!
So, there you have it, folks! Health inspectors are on the lookout, making sure our favorite dining spots keep things hygienic and safe. Next time you’re out enjoying a meal in Charleston, remember to keep this juicy scoop in mind. Let’s support our local businesses while also keeping our culinary experiences safe and delicious!
