Upcoming Races Bring Excitement to Charleston Area

Charleston Set for Upcoming Races

Exciting athletic events are on the horizon in the Charleston area as it prepares for a series of walks, runs and triathlons throughout the rest of the year. Races for all ages and skill levels are set to take place, with many of these events dedicated to supporting important causes. Whether you are a seasoned athlete or a beginner, there is an opportunity for everyone to participate.

Race for the ARK

Lacing up for its 25th year, the Race for the ARK is scheduled for Aug. 24 in Summerville. This event includes a 5K run/walk and a one-mile fun run, culminating in a community block party. The festive ending features local vendors, food trucks, live music, and children’s activities.

9/11 Heroes Run

On Sept. 14, the 9/11 Heroes Run will be organized on Daniel Island. This 5K run/walk event invites participants of all ages and capabilities to commemorate the lives lost during 9/11 and to honor those who continue to serve today.

Stronger Together 5K

The inaugural Stronger Together 5K race is set to take place on Sept. 21 on Johns Island. Conveniently, this event is designed to be accessible for parents and pet owners, making room for strollers and pets throughout the race.

Cooper River Bridge Run Kids Run

The Cooper River Bridge Run Kids Run is a family-friendly event happening on Sept. 29 in Charleston. The event features an exciting family festival with face painting, a jump castle, a slide, and free hot dogs.

Kiawah Island Triathlon

The challenging Kiawah Island Triathlon takes place on Oct. 6. This race is presently the only intermediate-distance triathlon in the area with an ocean swim. All levels of athletes can test their mettle in the swim, bike, and run segments of the event.

James Island Connector Run

The James Island Connector Run happening on Oct. 26 offers an 8K run, a 5K run, and a 5K walk. Participants will be treated to picturesque views of the Ashley River and the historic Downtown Charleston Peninsula

Lung FORCE Run/Walk Charleston

Lung FORCE Run/Walk Charleston is set for Nov. 9 at Folly Beach. Participants can choose to walk, jog, or run in the sand during this event celebrating lung cancer survivors, honoring those who have lost their lives to lung disease, and offering support to those currently affected.

Reindeer Run

The fun and festive Reindeer Run is scheduled for Dec. 24 in Charleston. This family and pet-friendly 5K race encourages participants to dress up in their favorite holiday outfits and take part in the spirit of the season.

Moreover, it’s never too early to mark your calendar for the next year’s Cooper River Bridge Run, which is already scheduled for April 5, 2025.
