In an alarming turn of events, the Charleston Police and SWAT team were dispatched to a West Ashley apartment complex on Tuesday evening in response to a disturbance involving a firearm.
The incident reportedly began in the late evening hours on Royal Palm Boulevard. The specifics of the disturbance, namely if the firearm was discharged, if there were any injuries, or if any arrests have been made, remain unknown at this time.
More than a dozen police officers along with SWAT team members were witnessed in attendance at the Palms Apartment complex off Orange Grove Road. Communications from the authorities to the suspect were heard via a loudspeaker, with the individual being asked to surrender and informed of their arrest. Multiple loud bangs were heard whilst law enforcement was engaged at the scene, though the cause of these noises remains uncertain.
As of 12:30 a.m., a significant law enforcement presence remained at the scene. The factors leading to the suspect barricading themselves inside one of the apartment units are yet to be disclosed.
