Charges Against the Suspects

Quantero Phillips, 30, is facing a considerably long list of 20 charges, which include four counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, nine counts of financial transaction card fraud, three counts of financial transaction card theft, and several property crime enhancement charges along with second-degree burglary.

The charges against 52-year-old Marlin Smalls encompass breaking into a motor vehicle, financial transaction card theft, fraud, and a violation of probation, as per the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services.

The third suspect, 36-year-old Michael Drayton, has also been charged with breaking into a motor vehicle and committing both financial transaction card theft and fraud.

Protecting Against Property Crimes

Sgt. Anthony Gibson, of the Charleston Police Department, emphasized the widespread impact of property crimes, stating, “property crimes affect more individuals in our community than other types of crimes.” He advised residents to remain vigilant against these crimes of opportunity by removing valuables from vehicles, ensuring their cars are locked, parking in well-lit areas, and securely storing all firearms. He further updated that any suspicious activity should be reported immediately.

Bail Set for the Suspects

Following the arrests, a judge has set bail for the individual charges faced by the suspects. Phillips’ bail is set at $378,000 in total, Smalls is required to post $70,000, and Drayton’s bail is set at $65,000. The suspects are currently held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
