Led by culinary duo Michael and Courtney Zentner, the bistro will offer a unique blend of French-inspired dishes with Southern influences. The intimate space will feature a cozy ambiance, and reservations are highly encouraged as the menu focuses on local ingredients and seasonal offerings. Don’t miss out on this culinary gem located next to Petit Merci bakery!
Get ready, Charleston! There’s a new dining spot headed to our charming streets. Merci, a cozy European-style bistro, is set to open its doors on March 22 at the bustling intersection of Pitt and Montagu Streets. This location was formerly a neighborhood bodega, but it’s been transformed into a delightful haven for food lovers.
The vision behind Merci comes from the talented duo, Michael and Courtney Zentner. They have gained quite the reputation with their culinary company, the Drifter, famous for organizing those Instagram-worthy events that everyone raves about! At Merci, Michael takes the reins as the culinary director, while Alex Cotler, who previously worked at Costa, serves as sous chef. They’re bringing their creativity and love for food to ensure a feast for both the palate and the eyes.
The menu at Merci is set to be an adventure of flavors! Expect a delightful blend as the chefs serve up French-inspired dishes that have a playful spin influenced by the South. The atmosphere is designed to be welcoming and casual, making it perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or a romantic dinner date. One dish that promises to steal the spotlight is a *focaccia stuffed with stracciatella cheese*, topped with delicious Benton’s ham, tangy pickled peppers, a drizzle of hot honey, and crunchy pistachios. Can you say yum?
Of course, you can also look forward to the classic French favorites like steak frites, but with unique interpretations of traditional dishes sprinkled throughout the menu to keep things exciting.
Step inside, and you’ll notice the stunning décor that brings together charm and warmth. The interior features elements from a collaboration with local designer Helen Rice. Expect custom furniture, vintage art, and elegant silver tableware that contribute to the bistro’s inviting vibe. With seating for 20 guests and six at the bar, it’s the perfect intimate setting to savor your meal.
As Merci gears up for its grand opening, it’s worth noting that reservations are highly encouraged. Diners can easily secure their spot online through resy.com as the restaurant operates from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. For those who love spontaneity, don’t fret! Merci will also welcome walk-in diners, making it easy to stop by and enjoy a delicious meal on a whim.
Keeping a finger on the pulse of the local food scene is vital to Merci. The restaurant plans to highlight local ingredients and seasonal dishes, reflecting Michael Zentner’s previous culinary journey, which included stints at the renowned Charleston Grill. Diners can anticipate exciting menu items such as duck ballotine, steak tartare, and hearty plat du jour options featuring succulent lamb and beef Wellington.
Adding to the charm, Merci is located right next to Petit Merci, the Zentners’ beloved bakery and provisions shop. This sweet little spot is known for its homemade provisions and baked goods, making it a perfect companion to the new bistro.
With the opening just around the corner, excitement is in the air! Following a series of successful pop-up events where diners got a taste of Merci’s small plates, the anticipation for the restaurant’s official launch is palpable. Plus, the menu will frequently change, allowing guests to enjoy fresh offerings based on the local farmers market.
So mark your calendars and get ready to enjoy a delightful culinary experience at Merci! This new bistro promises a lovely blend of European flair with a Southern twist, all served in a warm and inviting atmosphere. You won’t want to miss it!
