CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men’s basketball team is gearing up for a special Senior Day celebration as they welcome Hofstra to TD Arena on Saturday, March 2. The game, set for 2:00 p.m., will honor seniors Bryce Butler and Frankie Policelli, along with student managers Jonah Wexler and Kaitlyn Hubany.
The Cougars clinched their first outright CAA regular season title and locked in the No. 1 seed in the CAA Championship with a dominant 96-73 win over Campbell. Reyne Smith put on a show by breaking his own single-game three-point record, making 10 shots from beyond the arc for a career-high 32 points. Smith’s sharpshooting also ties him for the most three-pointers made in an NCAA game this season. With 94 makes this season, he ranks fifth in school history and could move up to third with just five more makes on Saturday.
Charleston has been impressive from long range lately, hitting 10 or more three-pointers in six of their last eight games, including two consecutive 15 three-pointer performances. In their prior meeting with Hofstra on January 4, the Cougars claimed a 73-61 victory. Butler led the charge with 18 points, followed by Brzovic (13), Policelli (11), and Smith (10) all contributing in double figures. The team currently ranks eighth in the nation in bench points per game, third in three-point attempts per game, and eighth in threes made per game. CJ Fulton continues to lead the nation in assist/turnover ratio.
Hofstra comes into the game with a 19-11 overall record and a 12-5 mark in CAA play after a 69-58 win over UNCW. Darlinstone Dubar paced the Pride with 28 points and eight rebounds, while Jaquan Carlos and Tyler Thomas also made significant contributions. Hofstra is riding a four-game win streak, having won eight of their last nine games. In the all-time series against Charleston, the Pride holds a 10-9 advantage, winning six of the last nine meetings between the teams.
All fans attending the game will receive a white t-shirt to wear during the contest, creating a dazzling whiteout effect in support of the Cougars.
Fans can catch the action live on FloHoops and listen to the game on the Varsity App with commentary from Everett German and Danny Johnson.
