Charleston, S.C. is gearing up for an exciting weekend filled with vibrant celebrations as the Latin American Festival takes center stage on Sunday, October 6. From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Wannamaker County Park, locals and visitors alike will have a fantastic opportunity to dive deep into the lively traditions of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Get ready for a feast of colors, sounds, and flavors! The festival promises non-stop music that will keep your feet moving all day long. You’ll hear everything from merengue to reggaeton, bachata to salsa. It’s not just about the music; there will be authentic food to savor as well. Think mouthwatering empanadas and the deliciously comforting arroz con pollo melting in your mouth!
This year, the festival features the legendary Billo’s Caracas Boys as the headline act. This 16-piece Venezuelan orchestra, with roots stretching back to 1940, is known for being one of the most influential Latin American musical groups. They will take the stage from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m., promising a show you won’t want to miss! Additionally, the NC Brazilian Arts Project will perform at 1:30 p.m. and bring a taste of Brazilian culture with their dances and music, including samba, capoeira, and much more.
If you’re feeling energetic, don’t miss the chance to join in on samba lessons at 1 p.m. on the event stage. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a curious newbie, it’s a fun way to learn something new. And for those looking to strut their stuff, the annual Salsa Dance Contest will be held at 2:30 p.m.. Show off your skills and maybe even take home a prize!
This festival isn’t just for adults; there’s something for the kids too! The Charleston County Public Library will set up a special area with games and educational activities, so families can enjoy a full day of fun together. Just imagine your kids engrossed in games while you soak up the atmosphere—it’s a perfect day out for everyone!
Planning to attend? Admission is $25 per vehicle for up to 15 people, and tickets will be available at the event gate. Gold Pass holders can enter for free, making it a great incentive to invest in one of those passes if you plan on attending multiple events throughout the year. Please note that outside food, alcohol, and coolers are not allowed, and unfortunately, pets aren’t permitted either. But no worries—there will be plenty of food and beverages for purchase to keep you fueled throughout the day!
They’ve got you covered if accessibility is on your mind. The event will feature accessible parking, restrooms, and even an accessibility tent equipped with Kulture City sensory bags and a quiet area for those who may need a break from the excitement.
