Get ready, Charleston! This Sunday, October 6th, the charming Wannamaker County Park will transform into a vibrant celebration of Latin American and Caribbean heritage, as the annual Latin American Festival kicks off from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hosted by Charleston County Parks, this festival is the perfect opportunity for everyone to dive into the rich culture and traditions that our city embraces.
From the moment you arrive, your senses will be enchanted by the enticing sounds of merengue, reggaeton, bachata, and salsa. The lineup this year is nothing short of electrifying, headlined by the illustrious Billo’s Caracas Boys, a renowned 16-piece Venezuelan orchestra founded way back in 1940. If you haven’t heard them before, now’s your chance! They will be taking the stage from 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. and you can expect an unforgettable performance that brings the heart of Latin music to life.
And let’s not forget about the NC Brazilian Arts Project, performing earlier at 1:30 p.m.. This passionate group, founded in 2016, shares the exhilarating world of Brazilian culture through amazing performances that highlight various dance forms like samba and capoeira. Attendees can even take part in samba lessons at 1 p.m. – a fantastic way to learn some moves and get into the festival spirit!
What’s a festival without delicious food? Prepare your taste buds for a culinary journey as you savor authentic dishes like flavorful empanadas and tasty arroz con pollo. Each bite tells a story of tradition and culture, making it a must-try for every food lover attending the event. Be sure to check out the selection of beverages and unique souvenirs that will also be available for purchase.
In addition to the delightful music and mouth-watering food, the festival is designed to be a family-friendly event. Bring the kids along for some exciting games and educational activities presented by the Charleston County Public Library. There’s something for everyone—whether you’re jamming out to the live performances, dancing your heart out, or simply enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Planning to attend? Admission is $25 per vehicle and covers entry for up to 15 people, with tickets available for purchase at the event gate. If you have a Gold Pass, you’re in luck—admission is complimentary! Just a friendly reminder, outside food, alcohol, and coolers are not allowed inside the festival grounds, and pets will also need to stay home.
For those with accessibility needs, rest assured that there will be accessible parking, restrooms, and an accessibility tent complete with Kulture City sensory bags and a quiet area for anyone who may need a little time away from the crowds.
We invite everyone to come out and enjoy this wonderful celebration of culture and community! The Latin American Festival is a fantastic way to connect with friends, family, and fellow Charleston locals, all while experiencing the vibrant flavors and rhythms that Latin America and the Caribbean have to offer. So mark your calendars, bring your dancing shoes, and let’s make some unforgettable memories this Sunday!
