In a recent turn of events, a late-night shooting on Tuesday left two dead in a downtown neighborhood of Charleston, South Carolina.
Around 10 pm, officers of the Charleston Police Department reported hearing gunshots on Johnson Street, located between America and Hanover Streets. Responding to the scene shortly after, they discovered two gunshot victims. Tragically, both victims would later be declared dead.
During the police investigation and the collection of evidence from the crime scene, a crowd of onlookers had gathered and reportedly turned unruly. This led to an unrelated arrest on the charges of public disorderly conduct, stated Charleston’s Police Department Lt. Anthony Gibson.
Lt. Gibson clarified that the public disorderly conduct arrest had no connection with the two fatalities from the shooting. However, as of now, no arrests have been made related to the unfortunate shooting incident.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office is yet to release the names of the deceased victims. The investigation into the matter remains ongoing, according to Gibson.
The Charleston Police Department has solicited public cooperation for any information related to the case. People privy to any details are requested to reach out to the on-duty Charleston Police detective through a call at 843-720-2422 or via email at speaktocpd@charleston-sc.gov.
