The city of Charleston revealed exciting plans for a family-friendly block party taking place on Wednesday, June 19th. The event, titled ‘Juneteenth on King’, is set to occur from 6 pm to 9 pm on King & Ann Streets Downtown and is organized in celebration of the announcement of the 40th Anniversary season of the MOJA Arts Festival.
Community Services Section of the City of Charleston is behind the organization of the evening’s festivities, which is set to provide entertainment for all family members. The activities range from outdoor dining to live music, and from dancing to browsing artisan and craft vendors. A music stage will be established on Ann Street near the Visitor’s Center garage, where attendees can expect performances from acclaimed entertainers such as The Legacy of Motown Band and Deninufay African Drum and Dance.
“The MOJA Arts Festival team has been working around the clock to curate one of our most ambitious Festivals to date,” said Charlton Singleton, the MOJA Arts Festival Artistic Director. “We invite everyone to our Juneteenth on King Block Party on June 19th as we celebrate and announce some of our main events for this historic 40th Anniversary of the MOJA Arts Festival!”
The Juneteenth on King block party is not just any celebration, but a remarkable kickoff to the 40th season of the MOJA Arts Festival dedicated to African American and Caribbean arts. This year’s MOJA Arts Festival schedule will be announced on Tuesday, June 18th and the series of events will officially take place from September 26th to October 6th of 2024.
For those planning to attend the Juneteenth celebration, the City of Charleston has provided parking information. There is the Visitor’s Center Garage located at 63 Mary Street adjacent to the area of Upper King Street, the Midtown Garage at 558 King Street, and Marion Square Garage at 399 King Street.
