The Charleston Place Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Charleston, is set to undergo a $150 million “reimagination”, spearheaded by recently established luxury design studio, Atelier Kim. The incoming revamp, inspired by the harmony of Southern hospitality and timeless European elegance, is expected to significantly transform the iconic hotel’s interior and exterior aesthetics.
Founded as part of the Beemok Hospitality Collection (BHC), Atelier Kim emphasizes its design approach on storytelling and regional history, intending to reflect each project’s geographic and architectural uniqueness. The studio’s purpose and vision prominently aligns with BHC’s commitment to a distinctly local and independent operational model.
Atelier Kim was created by Jungsoo Kim, a design principal with two decades of experience in luxury hospitality, commercial and residential industries. Kim, along with the Atelier Kim team, have an impressive portfolio of award-winning projects, having previously worked with big names such as the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills, New York, and Doha, Ritz-Carlton Shanghai and Tianjin, Four Seasons Bahrain and Tianjin, L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Singapore, and Burj Khalifa.
As part of its initiative, the BHC aims to refurbish nearly every space within The Charleston Place Hotel. The plan includes completely reimagining the hotel’s main entrance and arrival experience to incorporate a more distinctive and aesthetically captivating presence.
Once the renovation is completed, the hotel will feature 433 finely designed guest rooms and suites. It will also encompass several other amenities- a two-story Club Lounge, retail spaces, an upscale spa and fitness center, modern event and meeting facilities, and the iconic Market Street Circle courtyard. These substantial enhancements are expected to play a crucial role in maximizing guest satisfaction and experience.
The revitalized culinary spaces within the hotel will also provide an eclectic variety of food and beverage outlets for guests to explore.
Highlighting the distinctive role of Atelier Kim in the renovation of The Charleston Place Hotel, Jungsoo Kim emphasized and detailed the studio’s unique technique.
“Having the opportunity to take projects from the initial dream all the way through the entire guest experience is what sets Atelier Kim apart from many design firms,” said Kim. “We are meticulous in our approach and value authentic craftsmanship, connections, and design narratives.”
This reimagination of The Charleston Place Hotel underscores Atelier Kim’s mission to create design narratives that are not only visually captivating but also deeply grounded in the cultural, historical, and architectural uniqueness of each project.
This renovation signifies a huge investment in the future of downtown Charleston, promising to add a new level of extravagance to the city’s hospitality and lifestyle scene.
