For starters, By The Way is the result of a partnership between Uptown Hospitality Group and none other than Charleston’s very own Southern Charm stars, Craig Conover and Austen Kroll. “Craig and I are ecstatic to partner with Uptown Hospitality Group to share our idea of the ideal all-day, all-night neighborhood hang; a spot where friends old and new come together on the regular for good food, killer drinks, and great fun,” Kroll shared with infectious enthusiasm.

Goodbye Warehouse, Hello By The Way

Many fondly remember the Warehouse, which occupied the same space until its closure last year. Now, the venue has been transformed into a vibrant gathering hub with a charming atmosphere that beckons locals and visitors alike to sit down and unwind. The decor is nothing short of a feast for the eyes, featuring whimsical wall illustrations by Benjamin Lai, along with plenty of Charleston-centric photography that adds a local touch.

As for what’s cooking in the kitchen? Executive Chef Marcus Shell has whipped up an enticing menu that pays homage to classic American fare while bringing a modern twist. Mealtime highlights include mouthwatering fried oysters and caviar, innovative ‘nduja deviled eggs, hearty steak frites, and a savory duck confit sandwich that is sure to tantalize taste buds. Before opening to the public today, By The Way hosted a VIP soft opening event on December 11, showcasing its incredible new look to a guest list filled with familiar faces from the Southern Charm series, including the likes of Shep Rose and Venita Aspen. The anticipation was palpable as guests explored the newly renovated space that includes plush booths and inviting banquette seating—all set beneath a glittering skylight.

So, when can you drop by for a visit? Operating hours are currently from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekends. And that’s not all—there are exciting plans on the horizon! The team hints at expanding the hours in early 2024 and even introducing a music program to keep the good times rolling.
