City of Charleston Reviews Demolition and Rebuilding of DI Publix and Seven Farms Office

Several outstanding developments concerning Daniel Island and the Cainhoy area are currently under review by different boards and committees of the City of Charleston. Key among these reviews are the demolition and rebuilding of Daniel Island Town Center’s Publix and the construction of a new mixed-use development at Seven Farms Drive.

City of Charleston Technical Review Committee Review

On May 16, the City of Charleston Technical Review Committee expects to review a preliminary plat for a proposed development covering 26.5 acres located at 1698 Clements Ferry Road, known as Point Hope Parkway North. The property presently belongs to Cainhoy Land & Timber, with the application submitted by Thomas & Hutton Engineering.

Significantly, the Review Committee will also deliberate on the proposal for the expansion of Publix #0846. The expansion plan involves the demolition of the existing Publix situated at 162 Seven Farms Drive, to give way for the construction of a new substantial facility. Real Sub LLC, the current property owners, and Genesis Engineering Collaborative, the applicant, will be awaiting the committee’s resolution on the matter.

Design Review Board Meeting

Furthermore, on May 20, the Design Review Board intends to consider the proposal for a new three-story mixed-use building to be built over parking at 211 Seven Farms Drive. The property is now owned by SLS Development, and the application was submitted by The Middleton Group.

Last Week’s Results

The Technical Review Committee reviewed last week the proposed subdivision and construction of six townhomes at 123 Sportsman Island Drive. The proposed project covered 0.58 acres of property owned by Benjamin Stein. The application was submitted by Barrier Island SC, LLC. However, there have been no reported results yet from this May 9 meeting.

All mentioned meetings are open for public comment, with the exception of the City of Charleston Technical Review Committee meetings.

Key stakeholders involved in these developments include proprietors Cainhoy Land & Timber, Real Sub LLC, and SLS Development. Additional participants are applicants Barrier Island SC, LLC, Genesis Engineering Collaborative, and The Middleton Group.
