Charleston, S.C. – The lingering effects of Tropical Storm Debby have compelled Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) officials to announce a temporary closure of all its branches and offices until Friday. Book drops and automated returns will also be closed during this period.
Tropical Storm Debby has been causing substantial disruptions across parts of the Southeast. Regular operations at CCPL are expected to resume on Friday, once the storm has subsided and any necessary cleanup efforts have been undertaken. Patrons are asked not to leave anything outside of the book drops, in order to avoid damage or loss.
Despite the physical closure of the libraries, the library system’s digital tools remain accessible via its website. These resources enable patrons to continue to borrow e-books and audiobooks, access research databases, and make use of other online functions.
The decision to close has been primarily driven by safety concerns for both staff and patrons of the libraries, in addition to potential structural risks posed to library buildings by the storm. In the meantime, the library system is urging patrons to use the digital resources available on the CCPL website.
As the storm passes, the library system is looking forward to reopening its doors and resuming normal operations. Any necessary cleanup or repair efforts will be undertaken promptly to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for the library community.
The staff and administration of the CCPL deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of their patrons during this challenging time. Health and safety remain paramount, and all measures are being taken to ensure rapid and effective response to the changing circumstances.
Updates on the resumption of services will be provided as the situation evolves. Patrons are encouraged to check the CCPL website regularly for the latest information.
