Charleston County Seeks Volunteers to Serve as Election Workers for Upcoming Fall Elections

Charleston County Needs You: Become an Election Worker!

Hey, Charleston! With Election Day just around the corner—only 50 days away—we have an exciting opportunity for our community members to step up and make a difference. The Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to serve as election workers for the upcoming fall elections on November 5th. It’s time to rally together and ensure our voting process runs like a well-oiled machine!

Why Become an Election Worker?

According to Isaac Cramer, the Executive Director of the Charleston County BVRE, being an election worker is a chance to play a crucial role in one of the cornerstones of our democracy. “By stepping up as an election worker, you are not only serving your community but also helping to protect the integrity of our electoral process,” he says. Isn’t it great to know that you can directly contribute to maintaining the gold standard of service in our county?

Who Can Apply?

Getting involved is simple! To serve as an election worker, you need to be a registered voter in South Carolina or at least 16 years old. Each volunteer must attend a mandatory training session before Election Day to ensure everyone is prepared and informed. Plus, it’s essential to commit to a stance of non-partisanship while upholding election integrity. So don’t worry if you’re a first-timer—training will be provided by the friendly BVRE staff!

The Commitment

One important thing to keep in mind: this position requires a full-day commitment on Election Day, from the moment the polls open until they close. But it’s not all work and no play! Not only will you gain invaluable experience, but you can also earn some extra cash! Volunteers can make up to $250 for their service, which includes payment for training and work. If you’re ready to take on a leadership role as a clerk, you could even earn $410!

What to Expect

Charleston County is looking for volunteers from all walks of life, so don’t hesitate to get involved, regardless of your previous experience. Whether you’re tech-savvy or prefer a hands-on approach, there are various roles available at polling sites to suit your skills and preferences. It’s a fantastic way to meet new people, learn about the voting process, and give back to your community.

How to Sign Up?

If you’re excited to be part of this important process, here’s how you can apply: You can fill out an application online, drop an email to SCVotes@appleone.com, or visit the election headquarters located at 4340 Corporate Road in North Charleston. Have questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out at 843-744-VOTE—they’re there to help!

Spread the Word!

As the BVRE prepares for the November elections, the spotlight is on community engagement. The Board is not just responsible for conducting municipal, state, and federal elections; they also host outreach events focused on voter education and participation. So, if you have friends or family who might be interested in contributing, be sure to share this information!

The voting process is a vital part of our democracy, and every hand on deck counts. So, Charleston, are you ready to step up? Together, we can ensure that our elections are smooth, efficient, and secure. Let’s make this election cycle a success!
