Charleston Cougars Rally in Fifth to Top Penn

Charleston baseball faced off against Penn on Friday night in the first game of a four-game series. In a thrilling comeback, the Cougars overcame a 5-1 deficit in the fifth inning with a seven-run explosion to secure an 11-5 victory over Penn.

The game started with Jake Brink taking the mound for the Cougars. Despite facing some early challenges, Brink settled down in the third inning with a pair of scoreless frames. However, Penn managed to score two more runs in the fifth, leading to Brink’s substitution.

Mathis delivered a crucial hit into the right-center gap, clearing the bases and bringing the Cougars within one run. A series of wild pitches and a passed ball allowed Charleston to take the lead, scoring seven runs in total during the inning.
