CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston baseball played host to Nebraska for game two of a now three-game set after yesterday’s contest was rained out. The Cougars jumped out in front on a Cole Singsank two-run homer in the second inning. Despite a strong start from Jake Brink, who held Nebraska to just one run through 6.2 innings, the Huskers rallied late to secure a 5-4 victory.
Jake Brink, who was scheduled to start yesterday’s game, dazzled once again with a solid performance on the mound. The sophomore pitcher gave up just one run in 6.2 innings before being relieved by today’s originally scheduled starter, Aidan Hunter. Hunter managed to keep the Huskers at bay until the eighth inning when Nebraska scored two runs to narrow Charleston’s lead.
Unfortunately for the Cougars, Nebraska continued their offensive onslaught in the ninth inning, scoring two more runs to take the lead. Despite a late push, Charleston fell short, with the game ending 5-4 in favor of Nebraska. Alex Lyon came in to pitch the ninth but was unable to shut down the Huskers’ rally, allowing them to take control of the game.
Key contributors for the Cougars included Jake Brink, who put up an impressive performance with a final line of 6.2 IP, 7 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts. Offensively, Cole Singsank went 2-for-3 with a crucial 2-run homer, while Luke Wood finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Other notable performances came from Dariyan Pendergrass, Kevin Madden, and Tyler Sorrentino, each contributing with a hit.
The Huskers and Cougars will conclude their weekend series tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. local time. Charleston will look to bounce back and secure a win in the series finale against Nebraska.
