MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston baseball team continued their winning ways by completing a sweep of the William & Mary Tribe with a 3-0 victory on Sunday at Patriots Point. The Cougars’ dominant performance saw them keep the Tribe scoreless over the final 20 innings of the series, extending their winning streak to eight games.
The Cougars’ pitching staff shined in the series finale, with Connor Campbell and Hayden Thomas leading the charge. Campbell, who improved his record to 6-2 on the season, allowed only three hits and struck out six batters in six impressive innings. Thomas, on the other hand, came in as relief and shut down the Tribe’s offense to secure the win and his first career save.
Offensively, the Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with Avery Neaves launching a solo home run in the first inning to give Charleston an early lead. Neaves’ homer was his ninth of the season, tying him for second on the team in home runs. The Cougars added to their lead in the second inning, thanks to key hits from Will Baumhofer and Kevin Madden.
The victory over William & Mary marked a significant milestone for the College of Charleston baseball program, as it was their 1,100th win since the program was resumed in 1991. The Cougars have been on a tear lately, winning 14 of their last 15 games and maintaining a spot at the top of the CAA standings alongside UNCW.
With the sweep of William & Mary in the books, the Cougars now turn their attention to a home-and-home series against The Citadel on Tuesday at Riley Park. Charleston will look to carry their momentum into the upcoming games and continue their hot streak as they head into the final stretch of the season.
In the series finale against the Tribe, several players stood out for the Cougars. Luke Wood led the team with three hits, while Avery Neaves and Kevin Madden contributed key hits and RBIs to secure the win. On the pitching side, Connor Campbell’s stellar performance on the mound set the tone for Charleston’s shutout victory.
The College of Charleston baseball team’s impressive sweep of William & Mary showcased their strength both on the mound and at the plate. With an eight-game winning streak and a historic milestone under their belt, the Cougars are primed for continued success as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the remainder of the season.
