Led by tournament MVP Reyne Smith, the Cougars showcased resilience and determination to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

Smith’s Heroics

Known for his sharpshooting from beyond the arc, Reyne Smith delivered a standout performance on both ends of the court. Despite scoring 23 points, including crucial baskets in overtime, Smith’s exceptional defense was the highlight of the game. With Stony Brook threatening to steal the win in regulation, Smith’s pivotal steal snatched the momentum back in favor of the Cougars, propelling them to victory.

Back-to-Back Triumph

College of Charleston’s triumph marks their second consecutive CAA title, a feat not achieved since UNCW in 2016 and 2017. The Cougars have now captured three of the past seven CAA championships, solidifying their status as a dominant force in the league since joining in 2013-14. Head coach Pat Kelsey’s leadership has been instrumental in guiding the team to success, claiming his fifth conference championship in the past eight years.

Historic Streak and Superior Performance

The Cougars’ victory extends their impressive winning streak to 12 games, reflecting their dominance on the court. With a record of 58-11 over the past two seasons, College of Charleston has etched their name in the annals of program history. Notably, the team maintained an undefeated record against Stony Brook, showcasing their ability to rise to the occasion against tough opposition.

Key Players Shine

Smith’s stellar performance was complemented by a balanced scoring effort from the Cougar starters. Ben Burnham’s contributions on both ends of the court, coupled with the scoring prowess of Ante Brzovic, Frankie Policelli, and Kobe Rodgers, underscored the team’s depth and versatility. CJ Fulton’s playmaking abilities were also instrumental in orchestrating the Cougars’ offense.

Next Stop: NCAA Tournament

With their ticket to the NCAA Tournament secured, College of Charleston eagerly anticipates the upcoming CBS Selection Show to learn their opponent, site, and date for the Big Dance. The Cougars’ impressive resume and winning form make them a team to watch as they gear up for March Madness.
