This delightful event is not just a feast for the eyes but is also accompanied by heartwarming holiday tunes and contemporary favorites, making it the perfect outing for all ages!

The magical show will kick off on Monday, December 2, 2024, exclusively for College of Charleston students, creating a special atmosphere for those who study and thrive in this wonderful city. But don’t worry; you don’t have to wait long to join in on the fun! The dazzling light display will open to the public the very next day, on December 3, 2024! So, make sure to circle those dates!
A Dazzling Display
Prepare to be awestruck as you walk through the stunning Cistern Yard, where a phenomenal 46,490 lights will twinkle brightly throughout the month-long event. From the moment you step foot in this beautifully decorated yard, you’ll be greeted by a captivating show that runs every night from 5:30 PM until 9 PM! Want to mark the occasion with family and friends? The light show runs every half hour until January 2, 2025, giving you plenty of time to witness the magic!
A Gift to the Community
The executive vice president for student affairs, Alicia Caudill, joyfully states that “The Cougar Night Lights are our joyful gift to the College and Charleston community.” It’s clear that this event is all about bringing people together in a stunning setting and spreading the cheer during this festive time of the year.
Behind the Magic
What makes this event even more special? The creative mastermind behind the light show is none other than John Reynolds, a College of Charleston alumnus and an Emmy Award-winning lighting designer. You may know him for his spectacular work in high-profile events like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Super Bowl! His experience and talent surely promise a show you won’t want to miss!

Wondering how to get there? The Cistern Yard is conveniently located at the corner of George and St. Philip Streets. And if you’re driving, don’t stress about parking! Public garages are available at two nearby locations: the George Street Garage and the St. Philip Street Garage. Just park and stroll on over to the festive atmosphere!
