CHARLESTON BASEBALL SECURES SERIES WIN OVER WOFFORD
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston baseball team clinched the series win against Wofford in a thrilling game three matchup at Patriots Point this past weekend. The Cougars showcased a dominant performance on the mound and at the plate to secure the victory and continue their winning streak.
Connor Campbell Leads the Charge
Graduate student Connor Campbell set the tone for the Cougars with a stellar pitching performance, tossing five shutout innings to keep Wofford’s offense at bay. Campbell’s command and ability to shut down the Terriers’ hitters early on provided the Cougars with a comfortable lead to build upon.
Cougars’ Bats Come Alive
Charleston wasted no time getting on the board, scoring two early runs in the first inning through RBI ground-outs by Cole Singsank and Kevin Madden. The team extended their lead in the second inning when Trotter Harlan was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, driving in another run.
In the fifth inning, Dylan Johnson delivered a clutch two-RBI double to bring in Luke Wood and Kevin Madden, extending the Cougars’ lead to 5-0. The sixth inning saw the Cougars’ offense explode, with Harlan hitting a two-RBI double, followed by a two-run homer by Singsank. The Cougars added more runs through an RBI single by Dariyan Pendergrass and taking advantage of an error by Wofford.
Wofford Makes a Late Push
Despite Charleston’s commanding lead, Wofford made a late push in the seventh and eighth innings, with Tyler Hare hitting a two-run homer followed by a grand slam to cut the Cougars’ lead to 11-7. However, the Cougars’ pitching staff, led by Davis Aiken, shut down Wofford’s offense in the ninth inning to secure the win.
Key Players Shine
Connor Campbell’s dominant outing on the mound was supported by Trotter Harlan, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI, a walk, and a run scored. Cole Singsank contributed with a crucial two-run homer, his fifth of the season, while Dylan Johnson’s two-RBI double also played a key role in the Cougars’ offensive production.
Looking Ahead
With the series win over Wofford, the College of Charleston baseball team looks to carry their momentum into their upcoming road game against Georgia Southern on Tuesday. The Cougars will aim to continue their winning ways and build upon their strong start to the season as they face new challenges on the road.
