Charleston Church Receives Significant Preservation Grant from National Park Service

Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul is one among 59 projects that will receive funds from the Save America’s Treasures grants. These funds are earmarked to support projects that aim to preserve nationally significant sites and historic collections across 26 states and Washington, DC.

Charleston’s Cathedral of St. Luke and St. Paul are set to receive $750,000, which will be utilized for stabilization and repair work. This marks a significant development in the long story of the church’s history and the efforts to maintain and protect it.

The downtown church was built over several years, starting in 1811 and reaching completion in 1816. After several decades, the church underwent a restoration period that spanned between 1990-91.
