Charleston Burger Joint to Replace Long-Standing Restaurant in Daniel Island
A popular diner in Charleston known for its flat-top grill burgers and extensive tequila selection, Heavy’s Barburger, is set to open a new location on Daniel Island. The new restaurant will take the place of the long-standing Laura Alberts, which was located at 891 Island Park Drive for over two decades. The announcement was made by The Peninsula Co., who also handled the sale of the property.
Heavy’s Barburger Secures Property at Former Laura Alberts Site
The former Laura Alberts location represents an area of 5,400 square feet over a half-acre, including a patio feature. The property was quoted as being a rare opportunity in an established neighborhood with high earning households and constant traffic. However, financial details surrounding the transaction remain undisclosed. Hanging up the apron representing Laura Alberts, Karen Elsey was acknowledged by the seller’s agent for her extensive contributions to the food and beverage scene in Daniel Island and the greater Charleston community.
John Haire’s Tribute to his Grandfather
The name “Heavy” serves as a tribute to the establishment’s founder, John Haire’s grandfather. The nickname was given by his family and friends in his hometown in northwest Florida. Heavy’s Barburger, popular for their smashburgers and the extensive choice of tequilas, is a well-established name in the burger joint circuit, and it’s anticipated that they will bring the same passion and quality to the former Laura Alberts site.
A New Chapter in Charleston’s Culinary Scene
The business deal represents the transition of one restaurant genre – gourmet wine shop and cafe to another – burger and tequila bar. While long-standing patrons of Laura Alberts would surely miss the place, the advent of Heavy’s would undeniably mark a fresh chapter in the Charleston and Daniel Island culinary scene.
Tim Rogers Expresses Gratitude
Tim Rogers, the seller’s agent with The Peninsula Co., expressed gratitude towards Karen Elsey for entrusting him with the sale process. Although the procedure was not without its challenges, the successful transaction could provide realizable gains for everyone involved. The result, hopefully, is the creation of a new food and drink sanctuary that carries forward the reputation of the site, with the distinctive flair and savour brought by Heavy’s Barburger.
The opening of a new Heavy’s Barburger location at 891 Island Park Drive signifies the continuation of Charleston’s diverse and vibrant food culture. While Laura Albert’s has ceased its operation, its legacy will live on as another chapter opens in the local culinary scene. As food enthusiasts anticipate the grand opening, the Heavy’s team is ready to serve the same quality of service and food that they’re known for, injecting a new taste in Charleston’s dining landscape.
