Towson, Maryland – Hot Shooting Cougars Take Down Towson

In front of a record 4,322 TU Arena crowd, the College of Charleston men’s basketball team defeated Towson 72-56 for their seventh straight win. Charleston remains in sole possession of first place in the CAA.

Charleston jumped out to an 8-2 advantage behind threes from Ben Burnham and Kobe Rodgers and a slam dunk by Ante Brzovic. Following the 7-0 Cougar run, Charleston went cold from the field allowing Towson to go on a 9-0 run of their own and take an 11-10 lead. Charleston held tough on defense, stringing together a series of defensive blocks along with triples from Reyne Smith and Rodgers to regain a 20-14 edge with nine minutes to play. Frankie Policelli scored on three straight possessions to kick start the Charleston offense and push the Cougars largest lead of the game, 37-22, with just under four minutes to play. CofC held on to the momentum to enter the locker room up 40-26 while shooting 57% from the field during the frame.

Policelli started the second half with back-to-back threes to take a 43-26 advantage and Charleston never looked back, shooting a season-high 68% from three.

Key Cougars

Policelli had a game-high 17 points going 6-10 from the field. Smith contributed 12 points on four threes followed by Burnham and Rodgers with nine each. Rodgers added five rebounds. CJ Fulton dished out five assists to add to his nation’s best assist/turnover ratio.

Game Notes

Charleston made 15 threes at a 68% clip, the program’s best shooting percentage and second most threes from deep this season. The Cougars shot 54.3% from the field. The Cougars posted a season-high 13 steals.
