Charleston, S.C. – Charleston Baseball Athletes Shine in Summer Leagues
As the summer heat settles in across the nation, Charleston baseball student-athletes are heating up the diamonds in various collegiate summer leagues. With teams in action and players making their presence felt, the Cougars are well represented as they hone their skills and compete against some of the nation’s top collegiate talent.
Cavan McMeans, Cropdusters (Ripken)
One of the standouts from the College of Charleston, Cavan McMeans, has been making waves with the Cropdusters in the Ripken league. With six appearances and 23 at-bats under his belt, McMeans has already racked up four RBIs and even sent one ball over the fence with a home run.
Nick Foster, Florence Flamingos (CPL)
Over in the CPL, Nick Foster has been a consistent presence for the Florence Flamingos. In 15 games, Foster has tallied ten hits, six runs, and three RBIs, showcasing his offensive prowess on the field.
Dariyan Pendergrass, Lexington County (CPL)
Dariyan Pendergrass has been a force to be reckoned with in the CPL as well. With eight games under his belt, Pendergrass has amassed nine hits, scored 11 runs, and driven in five RBIs, all while maintaining an impressive .300 batting average.
Kevin Steelman, Lexington County (CPL)
On the pitching front, Kevin Steelman has been dazzling for Lexington County in the CPL. With four appearances on the mound, Steelman has recorded 16 strikeouts and boasts a stellar 2.25 ERA, showcasing his dominance on the bump.
Brent Gibbs, Lexington County (CPL)
Teaming up with Pendergrass and Steelman in Lexington County, Brent Gibbs has been a standout performer at the plate. In 11 games, Gibbs has notched 17 hits, scored 12 runs, belted two doubles and a home run, and driven in seven RBIs, all while boasting an impressive .372 batting average.
Chase Jarnagin, Lima Locos (Great Lakes)
Rounding out the Charleston contingent in the summer leagues is Chase Jarnagin, who has been mowing down batters for the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes league. With six strikeouts in four appearances, Jarnagin has been showcasing his pitching prowess and providing his team with a reliable arm out of the bullpen.
