Baseball Splits Pair with A&T to Open CAA Play – College of Charleston Athletics
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston Baseball team kicked off their CAA play with a doubleheader against North Carolina A&T on Saturday. Originally scheduled to begin the series on Friday night, the first game was postponed due to weather and moved to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
North Carolina A&T 5, College of Charleston 0
In the first game of the day, North Carolina A&T came out strong with two runs in the top of the first inning. Aggie starter Coley Kilpatrick put on a dominant performance, tossing a complete game shutout while giving up only four hits and six walks. Despite a solid outing from Cougars’ starter Jake Brink, A&T took the game 5-0.
Players like Trotter Harlan, Avery Neaves, Dylan Johnson, and Dariyan Pendergrass managed to get hits for the Cougars, but they couldn’t overcome Kilpatrick’s solid pitching.
College of Charleston 7, North Carolina A&T 2
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Cougars found themselves down 2-0 early on. However, they turned things around with a Will Baumhofer three-run homer in the fifth inning to take the lead. Avery Neaves also contributed with a solo homer in the sixth, and a bases-loaded triple in the seventh to secure a 7-2 victory.
Baumhofer went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and two runs scored, while Neaves finished 2-for-2 with a homer, four RBIs, and a run scored. Brent Gibbs also had a strong performance, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
