Charleston Baseball Hosts Wofford in Weekend Series

Charleston, S.C. – March 14, 2024

Charleston baseball is gearing up to welcome old Southern Conference rival Wofford to Patriots Point for an exciting three-game series this weekend. The Cougars and Terriers have a long history of competitive matchups, and this series marks their first encounter since 2013. Although Wofford claimed victory in their last two meetings in 2021 and 2023, Charleston is ready to turn the tables and showcase their talent on the diamond.

Last Time Out

Charleston faced a tough challenge in their recent midweek clash against Charleston Southern, where they fell short with a 7-5 loss. Despite a late rally led by Avery Neaves and Luke Wood, the Cougars were unable to secure the win. However, prior to this setback, Charleston displayed resilience in a series against Penn, capturing two wins out of three games at Patriots Point.

Scouting the Terriers

Wofford enters the series with an impressive 12-2 record under the guidance of head coach J.J. Edwards in his first season with the team. The Terriers have dominated their opponents with an outstanding batting average of .383 and an impressive 13.8 runs per game. Their recent high-scoring victories over Fordham and Lafayette highlight their offensive prowess, setting the stage for an exciting showdown against Charleston.

Leading the charge for Wofford is Dixon Black, the reigning SoCon player of the week, who boasts impressive stats in hitting, doubles, triples, and RBI. Additionally, standout player Toole has showcased his power at the plate with a team-leading four home runs and 15 stolen bases, making him a force to be reckoned with.

On the pitching front, Braden Hofmeyer has been a standout performer for Wofford, with a 3-0 record and a stellar 1.23 ERA. His dominance on the mound earned him recognition as the SoCon Pitcher of the Week, making him a key asset for the Terriers in the upcoming series.
