Charleston Baseball Hosts Liberty in Midweek Showdown
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston baseball team is gearing up to host the Liberty Flames in an exciting midweek matchup at Patriots Point.
Last Time Out
The Cougars are looking to bounce back after a series of close losses to Nebraska over the weekend. Despite holding leads in all three games, Charleston was unable to secure a win against the Huskers.
In the opener, Charleston’s pitchers Hayden Thomas and Alex Lyon put on a solid performance, limiting Nebraska to just one run through eight innings. However, the Huskers rallied in the ninth to tie the game and eventually win in extra innings.
On Saturday, Cole Singsank’s homer gave the Cougars an early lead, but Nebraska staged a late comeback to snatch the victory. Sunday saw Charleston jump out to an early lead, only to fall short once again in the final inning.
Scouting the Flames
Liberty is coming off a tough weekend after being swept by #22 Coastal Carolina. The Flames surrendered late leads in two of the three games against the Chanticleers.
Senior infielder Aidan Sweatt leads the Flames at the plate with a .349 batting average, four doubles, 10 RBI, and two home runs. Kane Kepley has also been a key contributor, hitting .295 with two homers and a team-leading 11 walks.
Liberty has faced off against a couple of CAA opponents earlier in the season, including a series against Hofstra and a midweek matchup with UNCW.
