Charleston Continues Dominant Streak with Sweep of Monmouth

The College of Charleston baseball team showcased their offensive prowess in a dominating 18-0 victory over Monmouth, completing a weekend sweep at Patriots Point. The Cougars’ relentless performance at the plate solidified their position in the CAA standings and marked their second conference sweep of the season.
With the win, the Cougars improved their overall record to 24-10, standing at 9-3 in CAA play. Charleston’s recent success, winning eight of their last nine league games, has propelled them into a tie for second place in the conference standings alongside Northeastern, just one game behind UNCW. William & Mary closely follows with an 8-4 record.
Dynamic Offensive Display
Charleston’s offensive explosion against Monmouth saw them record a season-high 17 hits while setting a new season record of 18 runs in a single game. The Cougars showcased their power at the plate, hitting four home runs in the game, including a grand slam by Cole Mathis in the seventh inning.
The team’s recent success can be attributed to their consistent power hitting, as they have hit three or more home runs in five of their last 10 games. Kevin Madden, Cole Mathis, and Dylan Johnson were among the players who contributed to the offensive onslaught, with Madden falling just a triple short of hitting for the cycle.
Impressive Pitching Performance
Left-handed pitcher Connor Campbell delivered a masterful performance on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five Monmouth batters. Campbell’s dominant outing earned him his fifth win of the season and further solidified his reputation as a key player in the Cougars’ pitching rotation.
