Something magical is happening in Charleston, and it’s come in the form of a talented baker named Ashley Cardona. This enchanting pastry chef is currently wowing audiences on the Food Network’s captivating competition, “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking.” With all the charm and sweetness that Charleston has to offer, Ashley is here to represent her beloved city in a show that blends the art of baking with the whimsical world of Harry Potter. And wait for it—famous twins, James and Oliver Phelps, known for their roles as Fred and George Weasley, are hosting!
Mark your calendars, folks, because the fun begins on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. But while we wait, Ashley gave some behind-the-scenes insights into her experience on the show, sharing her passion for baking and what being on the national stage means to her.
“Being able to represent Charleston on a national stage is incredibly special for me,” Ashley shared, her enthusiasm bubbling through the screen. “This city has been my home for three years, and it’s where my family and I have planted our roots. Being from the South, I was over the moon to bring a taste of our southern charm and flavors to everyone watching.”
Describing her overall experience as “surreal,” Ashley painted a picture of a magical world. “From having lunch with James and Oliver to seeing the actual sets from the movies, it felt like a dream! The days were long and filled with creativity, and every contestant truly pushed themselves to create masterpieces.” It’s not every day you find yourself knee-deep in chocolate and sugar, bringing your favorite movie moments to life, right?
Cardona reflects on the show, saying, “I’ve learned so much about myself and have connected with amazing pastry chefs who have become friends after some fierce competition.” This kind of experience is what baking dreams are made of!
So, what can we expect from her baking style? Ashley said, “My training in modern French technique blends beautifully with my southern roots. I strive to create technically creative and artistic desserts that evoke a sense of nostalgia with every bite.” Mmm, can you taste the creativity already?
When it comes to personal favorites, Ashley loves to whip up brownies with her two daughters at home. “Simply the best time baking is when I get to do it with my girls,” she mused. Yet, as a professional, she enjoys anything that allows for a creative twist.
For all the Harry Potter fans out there, Ashley revealed her favorite character is none other than Luna Lovegood. “Luna is beautiful in her uniqueness and how she embraces who she is. I admire that about her and strive to embody that more in my own life,” Ashley shared with a smile.
When it comes to her pantry, Ashley has some key ingredients that she can’t do without: “A good-quality chocolate, like Valrhona, and a reliable flour brand, like King Arthur, are essential in my kitchen.” And as for the flavors of fall? “Maple has completely stolen my heart this season!”
As a mother and wife, Ashley also cherishes date nights with her husband. One of their favorite spots is Muse, where they dive into Mediterranean flavors in a charming setting that feels just like Charleston should.
So, whether you’re a Potterhead, a supporter of local talent, or just a fan of the sweet life, keep an eye on Ashley Cardona! Tune in on November 14 to watch her sprinkle some Charleston magic across the screen.
