The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for a suspect responsible for an attempted roadside shooting, which took place on August 2 near Circle K on Bees Ferry Road, detailed a recent incident report.
The victim, uninjured, described an alarming encounter with an individual they recognized. The suspect, driving a gray GMC Yukon SUV, approached the victim who was walking along Main Road towards Bees Ferry. Reportedly, the driver beckoned to the victim, asking him to “come holla at me” according to the incident report.
The suspect then navigated the SUV up and down Bees Ferry Road only to pull up to the victim a second time and issue the same request. Eventually, the suspect parked the vehicle into a nearby Publix parking lot, turned around, and positioned the Yukon in the victim’s vicinity one last time. Concerningly, the driver next brandished a handgun, pointing it at the victim, and fired a single shot.
The frightened victim made his escape towards the Circle K while the suspect fled the scene in the direction of West Ashley on Bees Ferry Road.
Deputies arriving on scene discovered a .45 ACP shell casing in the middle of the road, appearing as though it had been run over by vehicles. The shell was promptly photographed and seized for forensic processing to aid in their ongoing investigation.
The Charlton County Sheriff’s Office has described the suspect as a male in his mid-30s. He has short hair, a goatee and was last seen driving a gray GMC Yukon with red lettering. Witnesses described the weapon he used as a full-sized black or gray semi-automatic pistol.
No arrests have been made thus far and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in their investigations.
Authorities are currently following leads and searching for the vehicle identified by the victim. Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has asked that any individuals with information related to the incident contact them immediately. Given the public nature of the alleged crime, it is hoped that potential witnesses may have useful information to provide.
This case serves as another stark reminder of the ever-present need for community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to ensure overall public safety.
