Charleston, South Carolina – The College of Charleston Athletics recently hosted the 2024 Coug Awards to honor exceptional student-athletes across all 19 varsity sports. The event, held at TD Arena, showcased the talent and dedication of senior athletes who have excelled both on and off the field.
Sophia Cucinotta from women’s track & field and Bunny Nazari from women’s soccer graced the stage as hosts for the evening, presenting awards to deserving athletes. Junior Caroline Berg from the equestrian team received the prestigious J. Stewart Walker Cup, the highest honor bestowed by the athletics department.
Jenna Annecchiarico and Ante Brzovic were honored as the Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year, while CJ Fulton and Taryn Barbot received the Male and Female Newcomer of the Year Award.
Bunny Nazari from women’s soccer earned the Commitment to Excellence Award for her exceptional efforts towards personal and team improvement. Chucktown Sound member Jenna Stern was recognized with the Most School Spirit Award, as voted by fellow student-athletes.
The Charlie Post Courage Award was presented to Bryce Butler from the men’s basketball team, in honor of his resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. The Sports Performance Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards went to Matias Gaedechens and Jazmyn Stone for their outstanding achievements in both competition and personal development.
The women’s cross country/track & field team clinched the 2024 Cougar Cup for their commitment to athletic and academic excellence, personal development, career growth, and community service. The softball program received the Chad Effect Community Service Award, in memory of former student-athlete Chad Cooke, for their outstanding community outreach efforts.
Women’s golf had the highest annual average team GPA, while women’s basketball showed the most improvement in GPA. Riley Haas and Maria Zweig were honored with the Academic MVP Award for achieving the highest cumulative GPAs among graduating seniors.
