In a recent development, the Charleston Police Department declared the arrest of a male offender suspected of multiple criminal activities including a downtown ‘peeping Tom’ incident. The police have identified the suspect as Juan Angel Borrero-Bristol, a 43-year-old Charleston resident.
Borrero-Bristol has been charged with two counts of voyeurism, first-degree burglary, and two counts of first-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct. These charges were placed in connection with several criminal activities transpiring in different areas of Charleston.
The ‘peeping Tom’ incident took place on July 6, at approximately 2:40 a.m., on the porch of a residential property located on Radcliffe Street. Victims reported that an unknown individual, later identified as Borrero-Bristol, was observed peering into the house through the window. The police were informed and the suspect was consequently charged with voyeurism.
As the investigation of this incident progressed, detectives were informed of a burglary and sexual assault incident that occurred approximately an hour later, around 4:00 a.m., in the West Ashley area. The suspect description in this incident matched Borrero-Bristol’s profile. Officers responded to a report of an unidentified man breaking into a residence on Ashley Crossing Drive and sexually assaulting two individuals. As a consequence, Borrero-Bristol was charged with first-degree burglary and two counts of first-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.
The ongoing investigation also linked Borrero-Bristol to an attempted break-in on Saint Philip Street in 2023. He has, therefore, been charged with this incident as well.
Chito Walker, the Police Chief of Charleston, expressed his gratitude towards the public for their assistance in these cases. He stated that the resolution of these crimes was a result of the collaborative effort between the community, media, and the law enforcement officers who diligently worked on these investigations. He reiterated the importance of vigilance and community involvement in maintaining city security.
Presently, Borrero-Bristol is being detained at the Al Cannon Detention Center. He is awaiting a bond hearing.
