Charleston Police Make Multiple Arrests in Recent Armed Robberies

Charleston, S.C. has recently seen an uptick in crime, particularly when it comes to armed robberies that took place downtown last month. The good news, however, is that local law enforcement officials are taking strong action. They made three additional arrests related to these troubling incidents, bringing some much-needed relief to the community.

Details of the Arrests

In a press briefing, Sgt. Chris Stinson from the Charleston Police Department revealed that those apprehended include Josiah Jerome Limehouse and Ty’ron Jahiem Kentrell Brown, both 21 years old and hailing from Moncks Corner. They face serious charges, including four counts of armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, and criminal conspiracy. Along with them, a 17-year-old boy—whose name is not being released due to his age—has also been arrested on the same charges. This young man has since been placed into the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Timeline of Events

The arrests are linked to a couple of harrowing armed robberies that occurred during the early hours of August 25. According to reports, just after 1 a.m., victims near the intersection of Pitt Street and Montague Street were approached by the suspects, who, unfortunately, pointed guns at them and stole their belongings. Just minutes later, another robbery took place near Coming Street and Duncan Street, furthering the panic for those around.

Earlier Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

The first suspect, identified as Derrick Gaillard, 21, also from Moncks Corner, was arrested just a day later on August 26. He is facing similar serious charges, including four counts of armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, and criminal conspiracy.

It’s worth noting that when the robberies occurred, Limehouse was out on bond for a string of other serious offenses. He had previous charges related to attempted murder, intimidation of a witness, and even discharging a firearm into a dwelling. Such a record raises numerous questions about safety and the effectiveness of current bail practices.

In Custody and Community Response

As of now, Gaillard, Limehouse, and Brown remain in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center. While this news may put some minds at ease, the police have stated that the investigation is still active. They are encouraging anyone with information about these robberies or related activities to step forward and assist the ongoing inquiry.

Those with tips can reach out to the Charleston Police Department by calling 843-720-2422 and asking for the on-duty Central Detective. Walking our streets should feel safe, and community support can be a powerful ally in making that happen.

A Community Rallying Together

As Charleston grapples with the aftermath of these incidents, the importance of community vigilance cannot be overstated. Residents are reminded to stay alert and report any suspicious activities. Ultimately, it’s about making our neighborhoods safe for all.

This series of arrests is a step in the right direction, and the community is hopeful that with continued cooperation between the police and local residents, incidents like these can be diminished. Together, we can foster a Charleston that is not only beautiful but also safe for everyone.
