Upcoming Races in the Charleston Area

Charleston, renowned for its vibrant and lively sporting scene, has a wide array of upcoming races that cater to all ages and skill levels. The city’s calendar is packed with various events, providing residents and visitors numerous opportunities to get active, engage with the community, and support heartfelt causes.

August Races

Kicking off the race line-up in August is the Race for the ARK on Saturday, August 24. Celebrating its 25th year, this annual event in Summerville features a 5K run/walk and a one-mile fun run. After your run, join the block party, which comprises local vendors, food trucks, live music, and activities for kids.

September Races

Taking place on September 14 at Daniel Island is the 9/11 Heroes Run. This 5K race is designed to honor the lives lost during the 9/11 tragedy and pay tribute to skilled professionals who currently serve in the police, military, and other related fields. Participants of all ages and proficiency are welcomed. The Stronger Together 5K scheduled for September 21 on Johns Island is a stroller and pet-friendly event. Wrapping up September’s events is the Cooper River Bridge Run Kids Run on the 29th, which is accompanied by a family festival.

October Events

The Meatball Run 5K scheduled for October 5 in Summerville is a prelude to the Summerville Italian Feast. On October 6, the only intermediate-distance triathlon in the area with an ocean swim, the Kiawah Island Triathlon, beckons skilled athletes. Other notable October races include the Avondale 5K and the James Island Connector Run.

November and December Races

Moving over to November, the Lung FORCE Run/Walk Charleston will be occurring on the 9th at Folly Beach, designed to honor, celebrate, and support individuals affected by lung cancer and lung disease. On November 28, the Turkey Day Run through historic Downtown Charleston will take place as an annual Thanksgiving tradition. As the year nears its end, don’t miss out on the Kiawah Island Marathon and Half Marathon on December 14, offering scenic views of the Kiawah Island’s landscape during the run. On Christmas Eve, join the festive and pet-friendly Reindeer Run 5K race.

Mark Your Calendar for 2025

While the annual calendar for 2024 is packed with exciting race opportunities, it’s worth noting that the Cooper River Bridge Run is already scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025.
