Belmont, North Carolina, proudly opens the doors to the new $260 million CaroMont Health hospital, a state-of-the-art facility poised to significantly enhance local healthcare services. With plans to serve 30,000 patients annually, the four-story hospital includes advanced medical features, a large emergency department, and employs around 350 staff members. The facility’s launch is an exciting moment for the community, which also benefits from a partnership with Belmont Abbey College to establish a new nursing program, further advancing local education and healthcare.
This morning, Belmont, North Carolina, buzzes with excitement as the new $260 million CaroMont Health hospital opens its doors at 8 a.m. Located just 10 miles west of the bustling city of Charlotte, this state-of-the-art facility is set to make waves in the local healthcare landscape.
As CaroMont kicks off its first day, it already has a surgical procedure scheduled and the anticipation of a first baby born through labor induction. Talk about starting things off with a bang! Outside, a county ambulance is stationed, ready to roll right to the hospital’s modern 16-room emergency department. Richard Blackburn, the vice president of operations for CaroMont Regional Medical Center – Belmont, senses the day will be a busy one!
This four-story hospital is conveniently positioned just off the first southbound exit on Interstate 85 after crossing into Mecklenburg County. Built on a generous 28-acre lot adjacent to the historic Belmont Abbey College, the new facility promises to be a beacon of health for the entire area. It is expected to serve around 30,000 patients annually, drawing primarily from Gaston County but also from nearby regions like Mecklenburg, Lincoln County, and even York County in South Carolina.
The scale of this new hospital is impressive, covering 240,000 square feet and designed with the community in mind. With approximately 350 employees expected to work here, 85% of whom have already been hired, it appears that this facility is already a significant employer in the area.
The new Belmont hospital is part of **CaroMont Health’s** larger pledge made back in May 2019 to invest over $400 million in construction and expansion projects within Gaston County. What’s exciting is that CaroMont has upped the ante, exceeding that initial investment figure significantly!
Beyond just the hospital, the campus also features a 100,000-square-foot medical office that opened in September and a newly constructed four-story parking deck. With a total investment of around $315 million in the campus, CaroMont is certainly leaving no stone unturned in revitalizing local healthcare.
In a unique partnership, Belmont Abbey College, with its roots tracing back to 1876, has leased land to CaroMont Health for the hospital while also planning to launch a new nursing program. This program is expected to empower nursing students, providing a direct pathway to hands-on training at the hospital. The anticipated connection between the college and the hospital aims to create a thriving hub of education and healthcare.
The hospital is equipped with cutting-edge imaging and diagnostic services, multiple labor and delivery units, and a surgical suite featuring two operating rooms. Notably, patient rooms will be considerably larger than those at the older Gastonia hospital, averaging between 250 to 260 square feet compared to around 110 square feet in the past. The soundproofing of the rooms is a feature to note, as specialized sound engineers have tested and ensured a calming environment.
With the demand for inpatient beds skyrocketing from 33 to 145 in just five years, this new hospital comes at a crucial time. There is even room allocated on the fourth floor for future expansion, signaling CaroMont’s commitment to adapting to community needs.
As Belmont embraces this remarkable development, residents can look forward to enhanced healthcare access and advancements that will benefit their families for years to come.
