Charleston, S.C. is buzzing with excitement as a Brooklyn-Italian-inspired restaurant prepares to make its grand debut next spring. Formerly the site of Butcher and Bee, the new eatery called Pelato is the brainchild of restaurateur Anthony Scotto Jr. and his family, who have a passion for authentic Italian cuisine that has been handed down through the generations.
For Anthony and his family, opening Pelato in Charleston is more than just a business venture; it’s a way to share their rich culinary heritage with a new community. The Scotto family enjoyed tremendous success with their first Pelato location in Nashville and decided to expand their horizons further south to the charming streets of Charleston.
“We’ve been making our way south for years now and are proud to call it our home,” says Theresa Scotto, one of the family members involved in the venture. “The people here feel like family, and we’re excited to bring a real taste of Brooklyn to one of our favorite cities.”
Pelato’s menu is set to tantalize taste buds with a delightful assortment of dishes that celebrate Italian comfort food. Among the many signature dishes diners can look forward to are:
But that’s not all! Pelato plans to utilize local produce and seafood sourced right from the vibrant Charleston community, further enhancing the dining experience. One popular tradition that will carry over from their other locations is the communal dish known as “Sunday Sauce.” This hearty dish features a collection of meats cooked overnight and is served with Fusilli pasta, available exclusively during dinner.
As for the ambiance, the restaurant is designed to be inviting and comfortable, accommodating up to 180 guests across its main dining area, bar seating, private dining room, and picturesque outdoor patio. The Scotto family believes that good food deserves a pleasant place to be enjoyed, and they are committed to creating a warm, welcoming environment.
One standout feature in the decor will be a large mural that showcases the Scotto family’s Brooklyn roots, designed with original photos that truly capture their journey. It’ll be a lovely touch that adds to the ambiance and connects diners to the history behind the food they are enjoying.
Local architect David Thompson has teamed up with Anthony’s daughter, Gabriella, to ensure that Pelato fits seamlessly into the Charleston landscape. With its expert design and a menu filled with the flavors of Italy, the opening of Pelato is something that residents and visitors alike are counting down the days for.
While Pelato gets ready to welcome its first guests in the spring, it’s clear that this restaurant isn’t just about Italian cuisine. It’s about sharing family traditions, building community connections, and creating lasting memories over delicious meals. With a commitment to quality and a genuine love for food, Pelato is sure to be a delicious addition to the Charleston dining scene!
