Brink Goes Seven Strong in Cougars Win

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston baseball team showcased their resilience in a hard-fought battle against Youngstown State on Friday night. The Cougars secured a crucial victory in the first game of a three-game series, thanks to a standout performance by pitcher Jake Brink and some clutch hitting from the offense.

Brink’s Dominance on the Mound

Right-hander Jake Brink turned in a stellar outing on the mound, going seven strong innings against Youngstown State. Brink displayed excellent command of his pitches, allowing just one run on six hits while issuing two walks and striking out seven batters. His performance was instrumental in stifling the Penguins’ offense and setting the tone for the Cougars.

The Cougars’ offense came alive when it mattered most, with Trotter Harlan delivering a crucial solo home run to tie the game. Harlan’s blast injected life into Charleston’s lineup and set the stage for a late-game rally. Luke Wood also stepped up in a big way, driving in the go-ahead run with an infield single to give the Cougars the lead.

Several players contributed to the offensive effort, with Kevin Madden, Will Baumhofer, and Luke Wood all collecting multiple hits in the game. Madden and Baumhofer each went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Wood finished the night 2-for-3 with the decisive RBI.

Strong Bullpen Support

Alex Lyon provided crucial support out of the bullpen, coming on in relief of Brink in the eighth inning. Lyon effectively shut down the Penguins’ offense, allowing just one baserunner over two innings to secure the save and preserve the victory for the Cougars.
