In the heart of historic downtown Charleston, plans are progressing for the establishment of a new boutique hotel on Market Street. This 50-room property, dubbed the ‘Hotel Arcane’, is anticipated to take the place of the erstwhile Rainbow Market at 40 N. Market St.
After receiving approval from the Board of Architectural Review for large projects (BAR-L), the project, managed by the ownership and development group Pinnacle Hospitality Partners, is set to move forward. Among the amenities and features projected to be included in Hotel Arcane are a restaurant, a speakeasy, a spa, a fitness center, attractive garden area, and a parking structure.
Pinnacle Hospitality Partners are reported to be conscientious towards preserving the historic charm of the old Rainbow Market. They are meticulously incorporating several notable elements from this erstwhile destination while also giving it a refreshing modern appearance.
One of the major concerns in the Charleston area is flooding. To address this, Pinnacle Hospitality has stated that there are measures being incorporated into the plans to effectively mitigate against flooding. This evidence of foresight and integration of community wellbeing into the construction planning stage has been well-received in anticipation of the new complex.
The Hotel Arcane at Market Street is not the stand-alone project under Pinnacle Hospitality Partners’ blueprint. Reports suggest that a sister hotel is also planned for 2 Anson St. However, plans for this second property have not yet reached the final approval stage at the Board of Architectural Review (BAR-L).
Downtown Charleston is a region renowned for its picturesque beauty, unique food, and historic charm. As new developments like the Hotel Arcane emerge, the city continues to balance modern progress alongside conservation of its treasured historical relics.
The construction and eventual operation of the new boutique hotel are expected to stimulate the local economy. Opportunities for direct and indirect employment will arise in various sectors including construction, hospitality, maintenance, and tourism. The presence of a new upscale property with extensive amenities is also projected to draw more tourists to the Market Street area, boosting the earning potential of local businesses.
Overall, the approval and progression of the boutique hotel plans represent a significant stride in the advancement of the downtown Charleston hospitality and tourism industry while preserving and respect for its historic integrity.
