Heavy Flooding Hits Boone, NC: Community Bands Together for Relief

Boone, North Carolina, is picking up the pieces after being hit hard by Storm Helene. The city saw unprecedented rain and strong winds, resulting in heavy flooding that has left many residents reeling. Streets were submerged, homes were damaged, and clean-up efforts are underway. But in true community spirit, people across the Carolinas are stepping up to help those in need.

The Aftermath of Storm Helene

King Street in Boone bore the brunt of the flooding, where the combination of record rainfall and wind resulted in serious damages. As homeowners and businesses survey the wreckage, there’s a feeling of camaraderie in the air as neighbors band together to assist one another. The city has faced storms before, but the impact of Helene has truly tested the resilience of the Boone community.

How You Can Help

In the Lowcountry, several Charleston businesses are rallying to provide support to those affected by the storm. Here are a few ways you can contribute to the relief efforts:

Dog & Duck Emergency Relief Drive

All four Dog and Duck locations are kicking off an emergency relief drive today, October 1st. Their goal is to gather supplies for residents in Asheville, NC. The folks at Dog and Duck are asking for items to be bagged or boxed to make transport easier. The first shipment of supplies is set to leave for Asheville on Wednesday, October 2nd. After this, they’ll continue to collect supplies for additional shipments, ensuring help keeps flowing into the struggling mountain town.

Hobcaw Brewing Company Step-Up

Brew lovers, listen up! Hobcaw Brewing Company is stepping into action by accepting donations through Friday, October 4th, during their normal business hours. All items collected will be sent straight to the Carolina Emergency Response Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a nice brew while also contributing to a charitable cause!

Supporting the CODfather

In a commendable effort, The CODfather restaurant recently dispatched a trailer filled with much-needed supplies to Henderson County, which was severely affected by the storm. The team is now actively gathering more donations for a second trip planned for this weekend. They’re calling on their loyal customers to help replenish the trailer with essentials so that they can make yet another impactful delivery.

Water Mission: A Ray of Hope

The Water Mission, a nonprofit dedicated to providing safe drinking water and sanitation solutions, is also on the frontlines. They are collecting donations to address the needs in the hardest-hit areas of western North Carolina, starting with Boone. Their focus is on delivering generators and safe water as they work tirelessly to restore normalcy in affected communities.

The Spirit of Community

While the damages from Storm Helene may seem overwhelming, the way that individuals and businesses are stepping up to support each other is a true testament to community resilience. Whether it’s gathering supplies, offering a helping hand, or donating time, everyone can make a difference. If you’re looking for ways to contribute, consider participating in any of the ongoing relief efforts mentioned above.

Let’s come together as a community to ensure that Boone and the surrounding areas recover and rebuild stronger than ever. Your support can help lift the spirits of those who have been impacted by this devastation.
